Design / Historical Story

Hello Kitty was created by Sanrio in 1974 and illustrated by Yuko Shimizu, first appearing on a small vinyl coin purse. Over the decades, she has become a global symbol of kawaii culture, beloved for her cheerful personality and international appeal.

The 2026 design features Hello Kitty sitting in her fuchsia playsuit with white polka dots and her signature red bow. She is joined by Badtz‑Maru, the mischievous penguin with spiky hair, and Cinnamoroll, the sweet white puppy with long floppy ears and rosy cheeks. The artwork is framed by a dotted and star pattern, with the inscription HELLO KITTY AND FRIENDS in alternating red and blue lettering, alongside the official ©2026 SANRIO licensing.

With an exclusive mintage of 5,150, this release holds strong collectible importance for fans of Hello Kitty, Sanrio, and limited‑edition Australia Post numismatic covers.
