Design / Historical Story

Hello Kitty was created by Sanrio in 1974 and illustrated by Yuko Shimizu, first appearing on a small vinyl coin purse. Over the decades, she has become a global symbol of kawaii culture, beloved for her cheerful personality and international appeal. My Melody, introduced in 1975, is a sweet white rabbit known for her red hood and gentle nature.

The 2026 design features Hello Kitty with her arms open wide, wearing a fuchsia playsuit with white polka dots and her signature red bow. Beside her stands My Melody, dressed in her iconic red hood decorated with a yellow bow. The artwork is set against a cloud‑shaped background surrounded by dotted patterns, with the words HELLO KITTY and My Melody in alternating red and blue lettering, alongside the official ©2026 SANRIO licensing.

With an exclusive mintage of 5,150, this release holds strong collectible importance for fans of Hello Kitty, My Melody, Sanrio, and limited‑edition Australia Post numismatic covers.
